The Knowledge Management (KM) for the Ifugao Rice Terraces (IRT) is a project under the Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight sponsored by the Office of Senator Pia S. Cayetano, Chair of the Sustainable Development Goals, Innovations, and Futures Thinking Committee, which was established by the Philippine Senate Resolution (PSR) 122. KMS is designed to conserve and store significant documents and data of the Ifugao Rice Terraces.
Knowledge Management is a technology-driven and innovative tool in sustaining the Ifugao Rice Terraces as a living cultural heritage. It will serve as a storehouse to collect, organize and systematize pertinent data, documents, researches and all available resources pertaining to the IRT. Through the system, IRT data will be put in systematized manner and will be easily accessible.
The Research and Development Center for the Ifugao Rice Terraces as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (IFSU IRT GIAHS) was established by virtue of Policy-Guidelines No. 66- 2014 on January 19, 2015 by the University. This was approved by the Board of Regents through Resolution No. 451 series of 2014 dated November 19, 2014. With this, the Center became part of the university’s organizational structure.
The IFSU IRT GIAHS Center is tasked to conduct focused research and extension activities towards the conservation of the Ifugao Rice Terraces; facilitate cultural restoration and agricultural and biodiversity revitalization; document, identify, and assess indigenous agricultural and biodiversity systems and technologies; and create national databases and publications concerning the Ifugao Rice Terraces system. GIAHS are outstanding landscapes of aesthetic beauty that combine agricultural biodiversity, resilient ecosystems, and valuable cultural heritage.
Moreover, the center adheres to the targets and measures of the university’s Division of Research, Development, Extension, and Training as one of its centers. The Center implements four (4) components that function with its current projects, programs, and activities. These components include the International Innovation Center for Indigenous Studies; Capacity Building Programs; Heritage Resource Center; and Local and International Linkages.

What is GIAHS-UNFAO?
The Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) represent not only stunning natural landscapes but also agricultural practices that create livelihoods in rural area while combining biodiversity, resilient ecosystems and tradition and innovation in a unique way.
Since 2005, FAO has designated 74 systems in 24 countries including the Philippines that is under the Asia and Pacific region that has the Ifugao Rice Terraces in the Ifugao Province.
What is UNESCO?
UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It denotes the specialized agency of the United Nations that was outlined in a constitution signed November 16, 1945. The constitution, which entered into force in 1946, called for the promotion of international collaboration in education, science, and culture.
It contributes to peace and security by promoting international cooperation in education, sciences, culture, communication and information. UNESCO promotes knowledge sharing and the free flow of ideas to accelerate mutual understanding and a more perfect knowledge of each other’s lives. UNESCO’s programs contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in the 2030 Agenda, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.

Prohibited Activities Members may not use the Knowledge Management System to engage in any activity that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, or otherwise objectionable. Members may not engage in any activity that interferes with or disrupts the system or the servers and networks connected to the system.
5. Termination The Ifugao Rice Terraces Knowledge Management System may terminate a member's account and access to the system at any time for any reason, without notice. Upon termination, all rights granted to the member under these Terms of Use will immediately cease.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties The Ifugao Rice Terraces Knowledge Management System provides the system on an "as is" and "as available" basis. The system may contain errors, defects, or other limitations. The Ifugao Rice Terraces Knowledge Management System makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to the operation of the system or the information, content, materials, or products included on the system.
7. Limitation of Liability The Ifugao Rice Terraces Knowledge Management System will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with the use of the system or the inability to use the system, even if the Ifugao Rice Terraces Knowledge Management System has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
